Tu versus vous

young_n_old_article.jpgThis concept is much, much more subtle than it seems, and it is crucial that you understand as much of it as possible. It's vital to the French culture, which even has verbs to refer to this notion; "vouvoyer" means to address someone using "vous"; "tutoyer" using "tu".

Catholic mass prayers in French

mass_article.jpgFar from me to proselytize, but this lesson can be interesting to some. I know some of my students will attend a service regularly, even when in a foreign country. Also, a fair amount of priests volunteer on missions to places where they might say the mass in French, whether invited to do so, or in an emergency situation like in a war zone. Well, I looked all over the web and couldn’t find a clear, well enunciated recording of a Catholic mass. So here it is, I hope some of you may enjoy it.

When in France, kiss, don't hug!
