French Lessons with Audio

It is hard to find French audio material suited for French students: movies are too fast, too difficult, and leave students with a feeling of failure.

FrenchToday's mission is to provide you with current, challenging yet accessible audio lessons that will help you improve your French language skills, but more importantly build up your self-confidence in French.

Our French Lessons are sorted by level: beginner, intermediate and advanced, and much of it comes with tools (like translations or vocabulary lists) to help you work your way through it.

This is a very large section, in which you'll find lessons on French vocabulary, French pronunciation, French grammar, French culture, as well as unique material like my Easy French Poetry analysis, Classic French tales, or French verb drills.

All of these French lessons come with audio, and you can listen to it on this site, or download it for offline studying. Some of the French lessons are free, and some are available for sale through our shopping cart. Everything is iPod and other MP3 player compatible.

I've been teaching adults for more than 15 years now, and developed and tested these French lessons with my students... so I know they work :-)

  • French Pronunciation

    French pronunciation is not easy but unlike English at least there are rules. Once you understand French accents, silent letters, liaisons, nasal vowels and other peculiarities of the French language, it gets easier... and even more so with repetition.

    There is almost no point in learning French pronunciation from books, you have to hear it. Our audio based lessons are especially well suited for learning French pronunciation. You can listen to these lessons online and of course download all the files for offline study if you prefer.

  • French Grammar Lessons
    All my students have a couple of French grammar books in their closet. However, I am surprised to see that there are some points which always seem to escape them. French Today's grammar lessons are designed to explain the difficulties of French grammar, help you master them, and allow you to train on specific topics. Since all French grammar lessons on this site come with audio, you'll be able to listen to the recordings and repeat. You can of course download all these files for offline study.

  • French Vocabulary Lessons
    Who doesn't need to improve their French vocabulary? These French audio lessons are designed to allow you to train on specific vocabulary topics like French expressions, French Numbers, proper French greetings and much more. And since all lessons are audio based, you'll be able to not only hear the correct French pronunciation but listen to the recordings and repeat after me. You can of course download all the lessons for offline studying.

  • Classic French Tales

    Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White... you know them all, don't you? That's why I picked this topic. Because you do already know the story, it makes easier to understand. But Tales are not easy French: they are written in the "passé simple", using upscale vocabulary, and you'll discover there is a lot of new vocabulary to learn, and it's a great way to review your verb tenses.

    The tales will be presented twice, whenever possible:

    • my own version, the very one I tell my daughter. This version is a bit simplier, uses a lot of dialogues, and is very lively. It comes with a full English translation and gorgeous pictures taken from a very, very old French book that belonged to my grandmother. This version is also a great way to introduce your own children to French.
    • I will also read - whenever available - the original version, from the 18th century. This is much more difficult, but is a great exercise for higher intermediate/advanced students.

    So, enjoy, and remember, repetion is the key!

    Some of the tales are free for you to access on this site, and you may also download the audio and text files for remote studying on your iPod, MP3 player or burn a CD. Other tales are available in our store for a small fee.

  • French Culture Lessons
    It's easy to make faux-pas when traveling to another country. Did you know that in France, it's impolite for a woman to help herself to wine? The man sitting next to her should do it. Did you also know that French people are quick to kiss, but seldom hug? These audio based French Culture lessons offer you insights into the French culture, as well as tips on what to do, and what to avoid in certain situations.
